Milestone makes MBE one of the largest and fastest growing franchises in the world.
For Immediate Release
SAN DIEGO (June 24, 2002) - Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), the world’s largest franchisor of retail postal, shipping, and business services,
today announced that it has expanded its network of franchised centers to 1,000 international and more than 3,500 in the United States. This milestone was reached
with the opening of an MBE center in Berlin – the first in Germany – and is evidence of the company’s unprecedented growth throughout its 22-year history.
Company executives credit the growing worldwide demand for convenient postal and business services and the quality of its franchisees for fueling MBE’s historic growth.
MBE is one of the fastest growing franchise organizations. In fact, the company is more than seven times larger than its largest competitor and nearly three times larger
than its five largest competitors combined.
"The continued growth of the MBE network, both in the United States and globally, exemplifies consumer demand for personalized and efficient service and the commitment
of our franchisees to providing customers with real help," said Jim Amos, MBE’s president and CEO. "The MBE concept is proving to be relevant to consumers around the world.
On average, a new MBE center opens somewhere in the world every business day."
MBE began in 1980 in California as a convenient alternative to the post office. In 1988, MBE opened its first international location in Canada. At present, MBE has master
license agreements covering nearly 80 countries.
Established in 1980, Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), a UPS company, is the world's largest franchisor of retail postal and business services. There are more than 4,500 MBE locations
worldwide, with master license agreements covering nearly 80 countries. Entrepreneur magazine’s annual "Franchise 500" has rated MBE #1 in the postal and business services category
for 12 consecutive years. In the United States, MBE locations are owned and operated by licensed franchisees of Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. Outside the United States, MBE locations are owned
and operated by MBE master licensees or their franchisees. MBE maintains a Web site at http://www.mbe.com.
