Sandwiched Between Subway (#1) and McDonald's (#3), MBE also
Maintains Top Position in Postal & Business Services Category for 11th Straight Year
For Immediate Release
SAN DIEGO (January 25, 2001) - If you think franchising is only about
fast food, think again! Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), one of the world's
largest non-food franchises and the top franchiser of retail business, communication
and postal service centers, is ranked second on "Entrepreneur" magazine’s
2001 "Franchise 500."
MBE packed and shipped its way up from a seventh-place ranking in 2000. As it
has throughout the past decade, the company topped the list of postal and
business services franchises.
"This ranking is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire
MBE worldwide network, including our franchisees and more than 300 San Diego
home office associates, who work together to serve our customers each and every
day," said Jim Amos, MBE president and CEO. "This collective
dedication to providing world-class customer service is key to our 20-year
success."
Factors significant in determining the rankings included financial strength and
stability, growth rate, and size of the system. In the past year MBE added 432
locations around the world, bringing the total size of its franchise network to
more than 4,300 locations, and making it one of the fastest-growing business
opportunities today. In addition to the overall rankings, MBE placed seventh on
the list of fastest-growing franchises.
"The MBE concept is a sound one, and the services we offer meet the needs
of a wide variety of individual and business customers. However, MBE continues
to succeed and set the standards in franchising because of a system-wide belief
in certain core values, often missing in today's business world -- caring,
honesty, fairness, integrity, trust, respect, commitment and accountability," Amos
said.
Mail Boxes Etc., a wholly owned subsidiary of US Office Products Company (OTCBB: OFIS),
is the world's largest retail business, communication and postal services
franchiser. Over 4,300 MBE locations operate worldwide, with master license agreements
covering more than 70 countries. In the United States, MBE locations are owned and operated
by licensed franchisees of Mail Boxes Etc., USA, Inc. Outside the United States, MBE
locations are owned and operated by MBE master licensees or their franchisees. MBE
